How to Enjoy the Magic of Fall (Even When Life Feels Busy)

How Is It Mid-October Already?!

The days are long, but the years are short. I can’t remember where I first heard that quote, but it rings true every year. I keep saying time is just flying by!

Fall is by far my favorite season—the crisp, cool air, the changing colors of the leaves, the feeling of sipping a hot beverage in front of a crackling fireplace. I just love feeling cozy. And I love Halloween. It’s the one time of year that really allows my creativity to flow with new decorating ideas.

However, this year has been different.
I didn’t plan a costume. I didn’t set aside days for Halloween activities.

This year, I’m building something—a new part of my business. Adding paint nights and craft workshops has been brand new for me. Yes, I’ve always created things to sell, but creating a space to teach and making it a fun, seamless experience for my guests has been a major learning process.

I went back to basics, joined a membership for painters, and dove headfirst into learning. Then came the next phase—essentially becoming a marketer, video editor, and promoter all rolled into one. Ha! It’s hard. And I know I’m not the only one who feels like this.

To all the moms juggling kids and life—you’re superheroes. I honestly don’t know how you do it. I don’t even have to know you personally to know that you’re amazing.

I just want to take a moment to remind you:
You need to schedule fun. You need to schedule rest.

And if a full day isn’t realistic, schedule a rest morning. That’s what I do.

But let’s talk about how to do small things to make the most of this season

Create Ambience: Each season, I search for a few ambience backgrounds that fit the vibe—crackling fireplaces, cozy coffee shops, fall rain, or Halloween lo-fi. I play them while I drink my morning coffee to start my day with calm, seasonal energy.

Make a Spooky Drink: I rarely drink at home and usually save cocktails for social outings, but if I’m having a night in, I love making a spooky cocktail. An easy way to make it more aesthetic is to add a garnish. I like to use candy eyeballs on skewers—super simple but it looks like something straight out of a witchy cocktail bar. Plastic spiders are another easy and fun touch!

Now, I love dry ice. My friends can totally vouch for that—if we’re having a party, I’m the one showing up with dry ice. My favorite ice house is no longer around, but your local Smart & Final might have some in stock. If that’s a stretch, another fun alternative is adding cone incense to a mini cauldron—it gives off a soft scent and that perfect “smoky” vibe.

Read a Seasonal Book: Pick a cozy, fall-themed fiction novel. I always imagine taking myself on a solo date to the park on a crisp afternoon with a book and a blanket. But realistically, that might not happen this month—and that’s okay. Instead of scrolling first thing in the morning, I can sip my coffee and read a few pages of the book I’ve had sitting on my shelf for over a year. Small moments still count.

Get Creative: Choose a seasonal activity that helps you slow down and be present. Even something as simple as painting a pumpkin while listening to a Halloween playlist can make you feel grounded and festive.

I’ve actually put together a few Halloween and fall paint kits that include everything you need to have a cozy night in. Handmade in my shop, they’re perfect for when you want to create something seasonal without the hassle of gathering supplies. Put on your favorite playlist, make yourself a cute drink, and get creative.

Host a Spooky Movie Night: You don’t need a big party—just dim the lights, pick a nostalgic Halloween movie, and make popcorn. My favorite touch? Pour the popcorn into a little black cauldron for a fun, themed twist. It’s such a simple thing, but it instantly makes movie night feel magical.

And lastly, document the moment.

I used to not take many photos, and when I’d see others’ monthly recaps, I’d feel like I hadn’t done enough. But when I actually looked back at my journals, I realized I had done plenty—I just didn’t capture it. Now, I make it a point to take a few photos, even of the small things: the coffee moments, the crafts, the cozy nights in.

Because when you look back, those are the moments that made the season feel special.

If you’re local and want to take the cozy creativity one step further, I’m hosting a Day of the Dead Paint & Sip here at the shop. We’ll celebrate the season with paint, drinks, and good company — it’s all about slowing down, connecting, and creating something beautiful.

Seats are limited, so if you’ve been craving a fun night out that still feels intentional and seasonal, this is your sign to come join us.
